Android jailbreak noob question?
I'm planning to get myself a new Dell Streak with Android 2.2 to replace my old iPhone 3G with iOS 4.2.1
I've seen the Froyo UI and I could say I love it! (especially the widgets that make iOS looks like a rubbish)
But what about the capacity of jailbreak on Android? Is it pretty much the same as I did on my iPhone?
On iPhone I could simply use a redsn0w to put a Cydia in my iPhone, add Hackulo repository, and finally install AppSync for 4.0+ so that I can play a free games that I downloaded from www.apptrackr.org
Yes, that's the only purpose why I jailbreaked my iPhone, to play a paid games without even paying it.
Can I do the same thing on Android 2.2?
the Android equivilant of Jailbreaking is refered too as Root
And if your intend is to get free games, your wasting your time. Android is an open sources operating system with a relatively open sources app store. Apps that are free and going to be free and apps that cost are going to cost.
Rooting and android opens up the opportunity to upgrade your operating system from Android 2.2 to 2.3 through a custom ROM or change other various themes of select apps that wouldn't be able to work otherwise.
If you get an android i highly recommend rooting. you get a lot more out of the device. Able to remove the bloatware apps that come locked on the device, access to apps like SetCPU which let you speed up or slow down your processor, changable themes and ROM like Cyangonmod7
IF you root, do very thorough research first. Androidcentral.com androidforums.com youtube.com howardforums.com xda-developer.com
