I have NHL 2005, I want to play it but I cant because of 3d accelerator card/video card drivers.?

It says your 3d accelerator card and/or video card couldnt be initialized properly, Please update the drivers for the 3d and/or video card. Contact you manufacterer to obtain the latest drivers. How much is it gonna cost, what do i do? can i download any online for free (safely)?

The manufacturer's website will often have these drivers available for download for free (If you don't own the card the drivers won't work.)

Also, be sure to get the latest DirectX version (9.0c) from Microsoft.

All of these are free... and I assume you actually have a 3d accelerated video card.
