Which HDTV is right for me? Plasma or LCD?
I am going to buy my parents an HDTV for christmas. They currently have an old rear projection tv and it is time for an upgrade. I am trying to figure out which TV I should buy. Here is a list of what I am looking for:
- 50 to 55 inches
- $900 to $1,300 (I'd rather not spend $1,300, but i am willing to)
- The tv will be used for everything. Sports, american idol, movies, etc.
- I want it to be a name brand. I'm not intersted in buying an insignia TV.
The room that the tv will be in has 4 windows and tends to get alot of light during the day. Also the TV will be placed in the corner of the room and will require a viewing angle that is fairly wide.
I'm not sure if I should buy a Plasma or an LCD. I am not interested in LED's or 3D TV's as they are outside of my price range.
Any suggestions on Plasma vs. LCD, and which brand you would suggest would be great!
You have something of a dilemma. The wide viewing angle you require means you want a plasma set. The ample daytime lighting means you want an LCD. It's a tough call.
Between those two issues, I'd lean toward the plasma. The viewing angle *will* be a problem with the LCD if someone is watching at approximately a 30 to 45 degree angle from straight-on. With the plasma, daylight *may* be annoying in that location, or maybe not.
Check out some plasma demonstrators on display in a big store. Also, look at some LCDs at various angles and see what you think. Then you can decide.
