Sharp: Experts to 3DTV - New standard or cherry on the cake?

is there any type of add on to make a HDTV 3D?

I almost bought a 3D HDTV last night, but didn't which led me to a lot or research on them later in the night. I learned that basically the 3D TVs can render non 3D content into 3D content, (but not as good at true 3D content), as well as view/render special 3D Blue-Ray in "True 3D". So I was wondering if there is now, or will be in the near future, some kind of "converter box" that will do any 3D rendering and then send that "3D image" to the TV, where the glasses communicate with that box instead of the TV, making your standard HDTV a 3D HDTV?

No, this isn't possible. To see in 3D, there must be two different viewpoints sent to your two different eyes. A standard hdtv does not have the required display technology, processing, and inputs to send those two different viewpoints to your eyes. That's with the newer 3D technology. Any color tv can display the old anaglyph colored cardboard glasses type of 3D, but that technology works so poorly that it isn't worth pursuing.
