What does it mean as 3d tv ready?

My dad just bought a 73 inch mistubishi DLP 3d tv.. It was 1499 from dell.com. It will be delivered friday, but i was curious about the 3d technology. It says it is 3d ready, so does that mean that he doesn't have to buy anything extra to use this technology? Also, he seems to think that you would be able to watch anything in 3d, cable and all, is this true? I thought you could only watch 3D programs, like espn 3d.... If you have any other information please inform us.. thank you!

I was wondering the 3D ready thing as well since like bluetooth ready on laptops doesn't mean squat basically.

Anyway, no you cannot watch anything in 3D, only movies on blu-ray made for it, some web site videos (not many) and you are right about the few channels such as espn but not many support it (yet)

3D is something I am really looking forward to and hope it grows more and I hope you enjoy your(dad's) TV

(also some PS3 games can be played in 3D)
