720p Plasma TV vs 1080p LCD TV?
a friend of mine told me that a 720p plasma tv looks just as good as a 1080p lcd tv because plasma tv's have a much higher refresh rate. (i looked that part up, and hes right. its 600-something Hz for plasma and about 60- 120Hz for LCD)
im asking because i found a 51" 720p Plasma TV for $699. thats a great deal compared to 1080p LCD and LED tv's of the same size.
just looking to clear things up and save a little money!!!
p.s. i dont care about 3D.
alright, what about a 1080p plasma vs a 1080p lcd??? which is better and more worth it???
Refresh rate is only one of the things that contributes to picture quality.
But your friend is right in the sense that most people don't really notice much difference between 720p and 1080p.
However, the chances you will notice a difference increase as your TV gets bigger, and/or as you get closer to it. 51" is a large set, so you'll see the difference between 720p and 1080p from further away, compared to if it was a smaller set.
(One other thing to think about - if you will mostly be using the TV to watch cable or DVDs, then much of what's coming into it won't be 1080p anyway).
