Help setting up my home theater in 3D with my PS3, and Sony AVR?

My set up is a 73 inch Mitsubishi WD-73638 DLP with Directv DVR, Sony STR-DG910, with a PS 3.

So while your receiver may be able to pass DirecTV's lower bandwidth 3D to the adapter, it won't work with 3D Blu-rays or 3D gaming from a PS3.

If you want to be able to use your existing receiver for surround audio, then you could bypass the receiver and send video directly to the 3D adapter instead. You would connect the PS3 video directly to the adapter, and connect the adapter to the TV. The problem is when you want to watch DirecTV in 3D, then you would have to unplug the PS3 from the adapter and plug DirecTV into it.

The satellite box and PS3 would each get their own 3D adapter for video, and you would only run audio connections (preferably optical or coaxial for 5.1 audio) from the satellite and PS3 to the receiver. When you switch between watching DirecTV and PS3, you would have to change the TV input to choose the video source, and change the receiver input to choose the audio source.

That is not as convenient as having a 3D ready receiver to handle all of the switching. So before you buy another adapter, you may want to research prices for 3D ready receivers.
