Question on 3D TVs and movies.?

Why is it that we now have 3D TVs that plays 3D and normal pics and recommended to buy one? But years ago, you could get 3D glasses free from a local store to watch a special 3D program on TV that was not a 3D TV. This only happened once, and it worked, but now they are selling 3D tvs. Movie theaters having to appear to use normal projections but the DVD/film is provided in 3D format. So whats up with need to purchase a new TV to get 3D while it appears normal TV could display 3D. IS this nothing more than another gimmick to sell? Has anyone having a normal TV played a 3D movie on it and can see it in 3D with glasses?

Your not remembering the 3d movie you saw on tv years ago correctly. I know for a fact that when you saw that 3d movie on tv years ago you had to use 2 colored glasses like red and cyan(blue green) or some other color combination. This 3d format can be done on any color tv. The 3d tv's do not use 2 colored glasses. They use shutter glasses that open and close. A totally different 3d format that a regular tv can not do. Also for the glasses that are just tinted at the theater they had to buy a new projector to do it with. They are not using the same projector from 7 years ago before 3d at the theater became big. They make tv's that can use these glasses as well.

Go ahead and try to use the shutter glasses or tinted glasses from the theater with your regular tv. No matter how hard you try I garantee you you will never get them to work with it.
