Why is 3d entertainment limited to 3d tv's?
With the new buzz being 3d tv's, i have a question that i cant seem to find the answer for. Why do you NEED a 3d tv to watch the 3d films that are surfacing? I have seen many 3d movies at the cinema and correct me if im wrong, but they havent invested in ripping all their old screens down and replacing them with new super hi def ones!?! I thought it was just the way the picture was projected, being blurry to the naked eye, which is then put into focus by the cheap disposable 3d glasses they provide?
Why is it that we have to buy a 3d tv, a 3d blu ray player and overpriced specs to get 3d at home?
I have a fairly new 1080p LED tv...no 3d though. I have a ps3 which doubles up as a blu ray player and i hear that you can download a patch to enable it to play 3d blurays...I also have a drawer load of those 3d glasses you get at the cinema...What is the reason behind me not being able to view a 3d film from my tv then?

The difference between a cinema and your home TV is the difference between a projection screen and a personal television. it used to be true that 3d effects could be projected on a regular TV screen, the new so called "immersive" 3D effects that are being used now demand technology that is a little more advanced. in actuality, the 3D tech used to display those images at home is more sophisticated than that which is used in theaters, which have to keep costs down. most home 3D systems use what are called "Active 3D glasses"; these use an infrared signal emitted by the TV to synchronize the lenses in the active glasses (which are actually semi-transparent LCD screens) with the action on screen, producing the desired 3D effect. the reason movies don't have to replace their screens is that they can merely replace their projectors, and show the movies on the same screen, using an updated version of the older 3D technology, without resorting to costly active glasses. my guess would be that the effect is heightened in a darkened theater on a massive screen, which most people don't have at home, making the two systems comparable in quality.
